Austin is a lovely city to propose in: water in the middle of town, a skyline that glows at sunset, and enough good weather to plan the whole thing outside. It also comes with a few things nobody mentions until the day itself — summer heat, rush hour on the way to the park, a festival on the one weekend you picked.
This guide is about the Austin part. The ring, her parents and the words themselves are in our step-by-step proposal guide; here it's the season, the hour, the place and the city around them.
✦
Before You Book
Step 1 — Pick the Season
- ✦October and November: Austin's favorite months. The heat finally breaks and evenings are soft, so everyone wants to be outside — Friday and Saturday evenings go first. Book four weeks or more ahead. The clocks fall back on November 1, and from then on the sun sets around 5:30 to 5:45
- ✦December through February: mild days, a few cold snaps, family in town for the holidays. Sunset is around 5:30 in December and close to 6:20 by mid-February, so proposals happen in the afternoon
- ✦March and April: spring, and bluebonnets along the roads, usually from late March to mid-April. Beautiful — and busy. In mid-March SXSW fills downtown and its parking, so a park away from the center is calmer that week. The clocks spring forward on March 14, 2027, and sunset jumps to about 7:40
- ✦May and June: long, warm evenings and the latest sunsets of the year — about 8:35 in late June. Late spring also brings Austin's heaviest storms, so keep the rain plan below in mind
- ✦July through September: hot — highs in the upper 90s, often past 100°. Two good answers: the last hour before sunset, when the day finally cools, or an early morning (the booking form starts at 8 AM). Light fabrics for both of you
There's no wrong season here — just a right hour for each one. Our guide to picnic start times has every month in one list.
Step 2 — Let the Sunset Choose the Hour
Most proposals here happen in the last soft light before sunset, the light that makes every photo look warm. Our proposal setups last an hour and finish a little before the sun goes down, so the latest start moves with the calendar: around 4:00 in November and December, 5:00 in February, 6:30 in April, 7:00 from May through July, 6:00 to 6:30 in September and 5:30 in late October.
You don't have to work any of this out. The booking form only offers times that finish in daylight, and the latest one it shows on your date is the golden one.
Step 3 — Choose the Spot
Austin's famous views — Mount Bonnell, the overlook above the 360 Bridge — are beautiful, but at sunset they're crowded and very public, with a long flight of steps or a scramble over rocks. They're lovely for a quiet question with the ring in your pocket; we don't set up there. For an arch, candles and a photo session you want room, soft ground and somewhere to park. These are the places we set up:
- ✦Mueller Lake Park — our favorite: a lake in the middle of the city, wide lawns and soft evening light on the water
- ✦Auditorium Shores — the whole downtown skyline across Lady Bird Lake. It's one of the city's most-loved parks: weekends are busy and part of it is sometimes reserved for a city event, so a weekday is calmest
- ✦Lakewood Park in Leander — a big, quiet park around a lake, just north of the city
- ✦Your own backyard or home — the most private of all (beyond 15 miles from North Austin, travel is $1 a mile)
- ✦Sky Lounge — a rooftop across Lady Bird Lake from downtown, $700 paid to the venue, for dates within the next month
- ✦Solaris House — a private home with a rooftop near the Domain, with no rental at all. Message us before you book and we'll check your date
- ✦Sekrit Theater — a hidden East Austin garden with chandeliers in the trees, about $300–$550 for two hours, paid to the venue
✦
Getting There
Step 4 — Plan Around Austin Traffic and Parking
- ✦On weekdays the roads are slowest from about 4:00 to 6:30 PM — exactly when sunset proposals start. Leave 15 minutes earlier than the map says
- ✦Mueller Lake Park: parking is all around the park, but spots get harder to find in the evening. Give yourself a few extra minutes
- ✦Auditorium Shores: parking nearby can be hard on weekends and in the evenings — one more reason a weekday there is lovely
- ✦Sky Lounge: parking is free for you
- ✦Festival weekends — SXSW in March, ACL Fest in October — fill downtown and the roads around it. Check the calendar before you choose a date near the center
- ✦We send you the exact spot about an hour before, so you're never searching a big park with her beside you
Step 5 — Have a Rain (and Wind) Plan
Austin weather changes its mind. Here's how it works with us: on the day of your proposal we check the forecast, at least five hours before the start, and message you. If there's any rain in it — even 10% — you choose: move the moment to your home that same day, pick another date within three months at no charge, or keep the date and take the chance. Whatever you've paid moves with you. Wind or a light drizzle doesn't cancel anything; we simply adjust the setup so nothing blows away.
Step 6 — Get Her There, Dressed for the Photos
She'll look at these photos for the rest of her life, so give her a reason to dress up. "I booked us a photo session by the lake," "dinner at that place you've wanted to try," "a friend's birthday picnic at Mueller" — any of them explains the dress, the hair and the exact time. Soft creams, whites and pastels look best against our setups; in summer, light fabrics. Our guide to cover stories has more ideas.

We set up styled picnics all across Austin — built before you arrive, packed away after you leave.

On the Day
Step 7 — The Moment, and the Minutes After
Everything is standing and glowing before you arrive; we step back out of sight. Walk her in, let her take it in, and ask. Then don't rush off to a dinner reservation an hour later — the best part is staying. Add the picnic to any proposal package for $200, and a little decorated table with cushions is waiting right there. Bring your own champagne and we'll set out the flutes.
Family and friends who come to watch are free: we don't set anything up for them, so there's nothing to charge. Tell us in the form where they'll wait, and they can join you after the yes.

What It Costs in Austin
- ✦Will You — $1100: an 8 ft heart arch of white roses, candles all around, two round towers of candles and a small white runner. One hour; we set it up and take it all away
- ✦She Said Yes — $1800: everything in Will You plus the "Will You Marry Me?" neon in the middle of the arch, a 15-minute photo session, a little film of the moment, 50 long-stem roses on a small table and two bags of fresh petals. The one most people choose
- ✦The Forever Yes — $2700: everything in She Said Yes plus a second photographer, two more tall candle stands and cold sparks
- ✦Prefer a picnic that turns into a proposal? Pillow Talk ($500) with glowing "Marry Me" letters ($30) — from $530
- ✦The deposit on proposal packages is $500 and holds your date; the rest is due at least a day before. Prices are before Texas sales tax (8.25%), which the booking form adds for you
Our guide to what a proposal costs in Austin lists every add-on and every fee, so nothing on the final total is a surprise.
Austin brings the light. We'll have the arch, the candles and the roses standing in it before she walks up.
