We get this request a lot, and it's one of our favorites: a message from someone who isn't proposing at all. "Hi! My brother wants to propose to his girlfriend and he has no idea where to start. Can you help?" Usually it's his sister — sometimes a cousin, his mom or his best friend.
He's completely sure about her. He just doesn't know what an arch costs, what time the sun sets in November, or how to get her there in a nice dress without giving it all away. If that's where you are, this guide is for you. The trick is to take the planning off his plate without taking the moment away from him.
✦
Who Does What
What Only He Can Do
- ✦The ring. You can help with her size — borrow a ring she wears and let a jeweler measure it, or ask her best friend — but the ring is his to choose
- ✦Her parents' blessing, if her family would want to be asked. In person or on a video call, a few weeks before
- ✦The words. A few honest sentences of his own beat any speech; our guide to what to say when you propose has four short ones to borrow
- ✦Going down on one knee and asking. Nobody can do that part for him
What You Can Take Off His Plate
- ✦Choosing the setup. Show him three photos and let him point
- ✦Choosing the date. You may know her calendar better than he does: no work trip that week, no early shift the next morning, nails done
- ✦The booking and all the questions. You can talk to us, he can, or both of you
- ✦The cover story, and getting her dressed for photos
- ✦Gathering the family who want to watch
- ✦Planning what comes after: the dinner, the phone calls, the engagement party a few weeks later
✦
Booking It for Him
It's simpler than it sounds: you fill in the booking form, but with his name and his phone number. That way our messages go straight to him — he's the one walking her in on the day, so he gets everything, including the exact spot about an hour before. Use the Special Requests box at the end of the form for anything we should know about her.
Choosing the Setup
- ✦Will You — $1100: an 8 ft heart arch of white roses, candles all around and a small white runner. Flowers to hold, photos and the neon sign are add-ons
- ✦She Said Yes — $1800: plus the "Will You Marry Me?" neon, a 15-minute photo session, a little film of the moment, 50 long-stem roses and fresh petals. The one most people choose
- ✦The Forever Yes — $2700: plus a second photographer, two more candle stands and cold sparks
- ✦A smaller budget: a picnic for two that turns into a proposal — Pillow Talk with glowing "Marry Me" letters, from $530
- ✦Prices are before Texas sales tax (8.25%)
Splitting the Cost
A deposit holds the date — $500 on our proposal packages — and the rest is due at least a day before. It doesn't all have to come from one person: one of you can put down the deposit and someone else can send the rest. Zelle has no fee; whoever sends it, put his name — the one on the booking — in the memo so we match it right away. Prefer a card? Ask and we'll send a link — card payments add the 2.9% + 30¢ processing fee.
A family gift idea: everyone chips in for the setup, and he pays for the ring. It's one of the nicest engagement gifts a family can give — and it's in every photo.
Planning something like this?
We set up styled picnics all across Austin — built before you arrive, packed away after you leave.
Book Your Picnic✦
Keeping the Secret
- ✦Keep the circle small. Everyone who knows gets the date, the time and one rule: not a word in any group chat she's part of
- ✦Family coming to watch: park away from the spot and get there before she does. She knows your car
- ✦Nobody posts anything until she does
Bringing the Family to Watch
In our proposal packages, anyone who comes to watch is free — we don't set anything up for them, so there's nothing to charge. A few things make it go smoothly:
- ✦Tell us in the form how many of you are coming, and we'll help you find a place where she won't see you until it's time
- ✦Arrive 15 minutes before them and silence your phones
- ✦Let one of you film from your side. The photos and film in She Said Yes are pointed at her face, so a second angle with all of you cheering is a bonus
- ✦Wait for the yes. Then come in — that family hug is the second-best photo of the day
- ✦Proposing at Sky Lounge? Up to 10 guests can join you there
✦
After the Yes
Give them a few minutes alone first. If you've added the picnic ($200), a little decorated table with cushions is waiting for the two of them right by the arch. Then celebrate together — dinner that evening, or an engagement picnic a few weeks later. For 5 to 16 people, The Gathering starts at $380, and it's a lovely way for both families to finally meet properly.
A Checklist to Send Him the Night Before
- ✦The ring — in a pocket she won't hug
- ✦The time, and the exact spot (we send it about an hour before)
- ✦His outfit, ironed
- ✦A few sentences he actually means
- ✦Champagne, if you're celebrating with it — we set out the flutes
- ✦Leave 15 minutes earlier than the map says
You can plan every detail. The moment is still his — and you get to be there for it.
