Here's what February 14th looks like at most Austin restaurants: a set menu you didn't choose, a table booked in two-hour blocks, a room at full volume, and a server who is being run off their feet through no fault of their own. It's nobody's fault. It's just what happens when an entire city goes out on the same night.
The couples who enjoy Valentine's Day most are usually the ones who stopped competing for the same reservation.

Three Versions That Work Better
1. The sunset one
Mid-February in Austin gets dark around 6:30, which makes a late-afternoon start perfect. A 4 p.m. setup means you're sitting in gold light by five and watching it go pink by six. Bring a bottle — we'll have the glasses out and candles already lit.
2. The morning one
Massively underrated. The parks are empty, the light is clean and soft, and neither of you is arriving frazzled from work. It also leaves the evening free, which matters if one of you has kids, a shift, or a long Tuesday. Valentine's Day 2027 lands on a Sunday, which makes a morning date even easier.
3. The one that isn't on the 14th at all
Take the 13th or the 15th. Everything is calmer, the light is identical, and the day feels like it belongs to you rather than to a national schedule. Plenty of our couples do this deliberately.

What Makes It Feel Like an Occasion

- ✦A bouquet or a box of roses waiting there when she arrives, instead of carried in from the car
- ✦A chalkboard sign with something only the two of you would understand
- ✦A short photo session — because otherwise the only picture is a selfie taken at arm's length
If you want photos, book the session. Every February we hear the same thing afterwards: the setup looked beautiful and there's no decent picture of the two of them in it.

If You Are Planning to Propose
February 14th is one of the two busiest proposal days of the year, and it comes with a trade-off worth knowing about: it's the least surprising possible date. If surprise matters to you, pick an ordinary weekend in January or March instead. If tradition matters more, the 14th is lovely — just book it a month out and tell us it's a proposal so we set the space with the photographer's angle in mind.

Book Earlier Than You Think
Valentine's weekend is the single most concentrated demand of our year. Every slot on the 13th, 14th and 15th tends to go by the end of January, and the sunset times go first of all. A deposit holds the date; the rest is due before the picnic.
No dress code, no set menu, no ninety-minute table.
