For a long time, becoming someone's girlfriend just sort of happened — a text, a shrug, "so… are we a thing?" Now more and more people ask on purpose: flowers, a sign, a little setup, sometimes a few friends cheering from behind a tree. In many Latin American families it has been a tradition all along, with its own name: la pedida de noviazgo.
We set up a lot of these in Austin. Here's what works, from free to unforgettable.
✦
First, Keep It the Right Size
- ✦It's a celebration, not a test. Ask when you're already fairly sure of the answer
- ✦Leave the ring box at home. Down on one knee with a little box reads as marriage — and that mix-up is not the story you want her telling
- ✦Match her. Some people light up with an audience; others want it to be just the two of you
- ✦Say the words yourself. A sign is lovely, but the question should come from you
✦
Free and Simple
1. A Note Only She'll Find
In her coat pocket, in the book she's reading, behind her car's sun visor: "Will you be my girlfriend? ☐ Yes ☐ Obviously ☐ I thought you'd never ask." Then be close by when she finds it.
2. Back Where It Started
Take her back to the place of your first date — the same coffee shop, the same trail, the same table — and ask her there. The place does half the talking.
3. A Playlist That Asks for You
Make a short playlist where the first word of each song spells the question, and hand her your phone on a drive. Watch her read the titles one by one.
4. The Selfie Trick
At the end of a good date, ask her to take a photo of the two of you. While she's looking at the screen, say it. You'll keep that picture forever: the second before she found out.
5. A Little Treasure Hunt
A few clues around her favorite places, each one about a moment you've shared. The last clue leads to you — holding flowers.

With a Little Setup in Austin
6. A Welcome Sign With the Question — from $210
Golden Hour is $200: an hour at sunset for two, a low table with cushions, an umbrella, candles, string lights and music. Add a hand-written chalkboard sign for $10 that says "Be My Girlfriend?" — it greets her the second she walks up, like the one in the photo at the top.
7. The Question in Glowing Letters — from $235
Light-up letters spelling "Be My Girlfriend" are $35. With Golden Hour, the question is already glowing on the grass before you've said a word.
8. A Tent of Your Own and a Neon Sign — from $580
Pillow Talk is $500 for two hours: a tent with pillows, silk ribbons and flowers, an activity to do together, a 15-minute photo session and a chalkboard sign with your names. Add the glowing "Will You Be My Girlfriend?" neon for $80, and she reads the question the moment she walks up.
9. Roses, and Plenty of Them
Flowers are the classic for a reason. With a picnic, a fresh bouquet is $180 for 25 roses or $250 for 50, and a keepsake box of roses is $150 or $200. Not planning a picnic? Send her a box of roses from our gift shop and write the question in the message.
10. A Little Film of Her Face
A film of the moment is $80: the phone on a tripod at the right angle, a microphone so her words are heard and not the wind, edited down to 30–60 seconds. It's already included in Daydream ($950), along with a 50-rose bouquet and fresh petals.
11. The Big One, Under a Heart Arch — from $1180
Sometimes this question is the big one: years of friendship turning into something more, or the long distance finally over. Will You ($1100) is an 8 ft heart arch of white roses with candlelight all around; add the "Will You Be My Girlfriend?" neon in the middle for $80. She Said Yes ($1800) already has the neon, plus a photo session, the film, 50 long-stem roses and fresh petals.
12. Friends Cheering From Behind the Trees
If she'd love an audience, let her friends wait out of sight and come out after the yes. With our heart-arch setups, friends who come to watch are free — tell us in the form where they'll be.
"The day we made it official" is a photo people keep for years. A 15-minute photo session is $125 — and it's already included in Pillow Talk and Daydream.

What to Say
Short and true. One thing you noticed about her early on, one thing you're looking forward to, then the question: "I don't want to just be seeing you anymore. Will you be my girlfriend?" If Spanish is her first language, «¿Quieres ser mi novia?» can mean even more. Our guide on how to ask someone to be your girlfriend has five more ways to say it.
✦
Good to Know
- ✦Pick "Be My Girlfriend" as the occasion in the booking form, and the options that fit your package appear on their own: glowing letters with our picnics, the neon sign with Pillow Talk, Daydream, Will You and She Said Yes
- ✦Sunset picnics end before dark — the form only shows times that do
- ✦The deposit starts at $100, and booking at least three days ahead avoids the $30 rush fee
- ✦Prices are before Texas sales tax (8.25%)
Years from now, someone will ask how you two got together. Give her a story she loves telling.
